Membership Information

Before you apply to join the Club, you must attend the range a minimum of 5 times, and get the Range Officer on duty to sign your membership application form on each occasion.

You then need to put in your application form and the appropriate fees (joining fee plus pro-rata membership fee), together with a copy of your Police record (obtainable from any police station).

The committee of the Club will then send a letter inviting you to attend the next committee meeting (held once a month). At the meeting we will ask you to talk a little about yourself, your employment, etc, so that the committee can get to know you. The committee will then vote on your application and you will be told the outcome.

After you get your membership acceptance letter, you then need to apply for a Gun License, by filling in the appropriate application form and lodging it with the Police, along with the fees (approx. $80 for 5 years).

You will then be sent a letter saying that you may enrol in the Gun Safety Training Course which is run by TAFE. You need to fill out an application form and send that together with the fees (approximately $100), they will send you the time and date of the next course. The course consists of a theory section in the classroom (multiple choice tests) and a practical section which is conducted on a shooting range.

Once you successfully complete the course, you will be sent a Certificate saying that you have done so, you then need to send a photocopy of that into the Police. They will then send you a letter asking you to come in and have your photo taken. After that you will finally have a Gun License!

To purchase a gun, you must first go to the Police and apply for a "Permit to acquire", stating the type of gun and for what reason it is required. After 28 days have passed, you will be sent a Permit to Acquire, which is valid for 14 days, and allows you to buy a gun. The transaction must occur through a licensed gun dealer.
